American Eurocopter Displays STAT MedEvac EC135 at AMTC 2008 on Booth 829

October 20, 2008

At AMTC 2008, American Eurocopter is showcasing an EC135 from STAT MedEvac, the air medical service (AMS) operated by the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. The EC135 has become the light twin engine platform of choice for AMS missions in the United States, and STAT MedEvac has a long and successful relationship with the EC135.

Founded in 1984, STAT MedEvac was the first operator to fly an EC135 in air medical service in 1997. The company operates a fleet of 20 helicopters that includes 14 EC135s and six EC145s. With these aircraft, it transports approximately 10,500 patients a year.

“The EC135 is made for AMS missions,” said Douglas A. Garretson, CEO and President of STAT MedEvac. “With the aircraft’s high performance, advanced avionics and large, accessible cabin, it has become the benchmark for our AMS operations.”

Offering a fast cruise speed of 138 kts, the roomy EC135 can be purchased with two FADEC-controlled Turbomeca ARRIUS 2B2 or Pratt and Whitney 206B2 engines. Its advanced avionics, twin-engine performance, open cabin, and substantial lifting capacity explain why the EC135 has become the top AMS solution on the market.

STAT MedEvac has a fleet renewal plan that is a long-term project focused on keeping the most current rotary wing technology available to STAT member hospitals and citizens of Western Pennsylvania.

“The EC135 is a highly reliable aircraft with tremendous versatility,” continues Garretson. “We have new EC135s on the way that will allow us to upgrade some of our older aircraft with more powerful engines and the latest avionics.”

STAT MedEvac plans to take delivery of new 135s during the second half 2009, and the fleet renewal plan will continue into 2015 and include both 135s and 145s.
