EmergyCare/LifeStar Anticipating Delivery of Completed EC145 from Metro Aviation

September 25, 2006

The wait is almost over for EmergyCare/LifeStar: This ambulance and air medical transport company based in Erie, Pennsylvania will soon take delivery of a completed American Eurocopter EC145 from Metro Aviation of Shreveport, Louisiana. This helicopter is the first EC145 to be equipped with a dual externally-mounted Liquid Oxygen System.
With a commitment to the tri-state region of Ohio, New York, and western Pennsylvania, EmergyCare/LifeStar was looking for an aircraft with a large cabin, lots of power, and a proven safety record. This is why they chose the EC145, says Richard “Dick” Gibbons, president and CEO of EmergyCare/LifeStar. “After looking at several helicopters, we decided the EC145 would provide the level of performance, reliability, and carrying capacity we need to accomplish our mission.”
The spacious (one pilot and up to nine passengers) EC145 gets its lift from two Turbomeca ARRIEL 1E2 turbine engines. Designed for the 21st century, the EC145 comes with a MEGHAS glass cockpit standard. It can be purchased with an optional IFR configuration with digital autopilot, for either single or dual pilot applications.
“The EC145's IFR platform is very stable, which is important in this flying environment,” Gibbons says. “For this and the other reasons I’ve already mentioned, we decided that the EC145 was the best choice for EmergyCare/LifeStar.”
