SKY Helicopters Buys First EC130 B4

March 1, 2007

SKY Helicopters, a Dallas-area provider of helicopter tours, Part 135 passenger service, ENG, flight instruction, and rotorcraft maintenance, is buying an EC130 B4 from American Eurocopter. The EC130 B4 is the first turbine helicopter to be acquired by SKY Helicopters. Currently, the company flies Robinson and Schweizer piston helicopters.
‘We decided to move into the turbine engine class, based on requests from customers who need access to larger helicopters,” says Ken Pyatt, President of SKY Helicopters. “Once we had decided to move up, the next question was, ‘which turbine helicopter to buy’? After carefully reviewing the options, we chose the EC130 B4 for all the right reasons. It offers comfort, carrying capacity, reliability, and strong customer support from American Eurocopter.”
With room for a pilot and 6-7 passengers, the EC130 B4 is a state-of-the-art helicopter that offers plenty of space inside its cabin, and great views outside due to its generous windows. The EC130 B4 is also extremely quiet (and safe), thanks to its Fenestron shrouded tail rotor. In fact, the EC130 B4’s external noise emission is 8.5dB under the ICAO requirement.
The EC130 B4's power comes from its single Turbomeca ARRIEL 2B1 turbine engine, offering a dual channel digital engine control system (FADEC), and a back-up control box. Add a fast cruise speed of 130 knots and a range of 329 nautical miles without reserves, and the EC130 B4 is the smart choice for piston operators moving up to turbines, and those already serving this part of the helicopter market.
