Suffolk County PD Buys EC145

March 1, 2007

The Suffolk County Police Department (located on Long Island, east of New York City) is taking delivery of an American Eurocopter EC145 at HAI 2007. The EC145 will be the third Eurocopter in the SCPD’s fleet. It currently has two AS350B2s.
“The EC145 fits our mission profile to a T,” says Sergeant Brian Barrett, commanding officer of the SCPD’s Aviation Section. “We do a lot of MEDEVACs, interhospital transports, over-water search and rescue, and law enforcement support such as inserting SWAT teams. The EC145 has everything we need to do the job; especially as we’ll be equipping it with a WESCAM infrared video camera, Spectrolab SX16 searchlight, and hoist and repel bars.”
The twin-engine EC145 is a state-of-the-art helicopter with more cabin space, more range, and quieter performance than the competition. Powered by two Turbomeca ARRIEL engines, the EC145's standard configuration includes a modern MEGHAS glass cockpit. Its optional IFR configuration includes a digital autopilot for both single or dual pilot applications. The EC145 has a fast cruise speed of 131 knots, and can carry up to one pilot and 9 passengers. The aircraft’s rear clamshell doors making loading and unloading fast and easy.
