The EC120 Helicopter Becomes the Bestseller for Light Turbine Single Helicopters in the U.S.

Remains the helicopter for stylish, high-performance personal and corporate/VIP travel

October 6, 2008

American Eurocopter announces that the single-engine EC120 has become the helicopter of choice for personal travel and corporate/VIP operators, outselling its competitors by more than two to one in this market segment during the past five years.

Over 500 of the five-seat EC120s have been ordered by to date, with more than 100 purchased by American Eurocopter customers in the United States.  Since its U.S. market introduction in 1998, the EC120 has become the most widely accepted aircraft in its class.

“In today’s economic environment, the EC120 offers the unique advantages of sophisticated style and comfort, along with outstanding performance, modern avionics and a highly efficient rotor system – all at entry-level acquisition costs,” said Marc Paganini, the American Eurocopter President and CEO.  “As looks also are important for corporate and VIP operators, our customers appreciate the EC120’s clean lines, including its Fenestron tail rotor.”

The EC120 is powered by a fuel-efficient Turbomeca ARRIUS 2F engine, and is known for its excellent maneuverability and low pilot workload.  It features advanced technologies, including the cockpit’s Vehicle and Engine Multifunction Display (VEMD), and the new generation Fenestron® tail rotor – which provides one of the most environmentally conscious sound signatures among civil turbine helicopters.

In fact, it was this quiet operation that made the EC120 the personal helicopter for Kim and Jill Wolfe. The Wolfes took delivery of their EC120 earlier in the year from American Eurocopter’s Delivery center in Grand Prairie, TX. Their helicopter is used for personal travel as well as business travel across Nebraska.  “We looked at all the aircraft in this class. The EC120 offered the performance, safety and the high visibility that we were looking for,” said Mr. Wolfe. “It is the quiet operation that you notice most often. The Fenestron tail rotor gives it a really quiet ride.”
The Wolfes are the owners of Midwest Medical Transport Company, an EMS transport company that serves all of Nebraska and western Iowa. Their EC120 features a unique, Nebraska Cornhuskers paint scheme that has already drawn a lot of attention in their home state.
