STAT MedEvac signs long term simulator training contract with American Eurocopter

April 8, 2009

Grand Prairie, Texas – One of American Eurocopter’s long standing air-medical customers, STAT MedEvac has signed the first long term commercial contract to receive pilot training in the new EC135/EC145 full motion flight training device, which is now in service at the company’s expanded training center in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Helicopter cockpit This full motion flight training device is part of American Eurocopter’s significant investment in the enhancement of training capabilities to support the flight safety requirements of its helicopter operators. This new system recently was certified by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Level 6 Flight Training Device (FTD) with motion, which will be followed by FAA approval later this year as a Level B Full Flight Simulator.

“Our operators’ flight safety is the top priority for American Eurocopter, and we are continually investing to provide the best training for their needs,” said American Eurocopter President & CEO Marc Paganini.  “In addition to introducing the new simulators, we are putting a major emphasis on creating scenario- and mission-based training programs that provide highly realistic operating conditions.”

STAT MedEvac will utilize the simulator at Grand Prairie for its crews that operate both the EC135 and EC145 in air medical services performed from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and the District of Columbia.

“This training system will allow our pilots to practice emergency procedures in highly realistic – and safe – conditions, while also allowing them to judge their decision-making capabilities as they work through problem scenarios,” saidRichard Gross, Director of Operations, STAT MedEvac. “The simulator’s ability to be configured for both the EC135 and EC145 is an added advantage for our training requirements.”

American Eurocopter began operations with the EC135/EC145 simulator in December 2008, with U.S. Army aviators becoming the first pilots to use the system in training for the UH-72A Light Utility Helicopter.  The UH-72A is derived from the EC145, and is produced by American Eurocopter at its Columbus, Mississippi facility.
